The National Committee is sad to report that there will be no 2021 Masters National Championships. The event has been officially canceled after Sun Valley made the final decision that they are unable to host the event this year. Considerable effort was made to put together a plan that would allow our championships event to be held following all applicable COVID guidelines, but unfortunately it is not to be this season. A big thank you to Meri Stratton for her significant effort over the last several month to work with Sun Valley through the planning process.
We are sad to share the news that we lost a beloved member of our masters community. Bill McCollom (New England Masters, M10) passed away on June 28th unexpectedly from a heart condition. Among many things he did, Bill supported the masters as Eastern Division chair for almost three decades. If you didn't know Bill personally, he likely wrote something you read in Ski Racing Magazine or personally inspired someone you know.
The 2023 A Racer's Edge Masters Nationals was a perfect display of the resilience, tenacity, and dedication of the masters community! With only a week to go to the event planned March 28-April 2 at Mammoth Mountain, CA the resort operations had to cancel the event due to the unprecedented and relentless snowfall that would continue for another couple weeks. Avalanche mitigation and the need to re-dig out chairs and lodges strained mountain resources as it took an increasing number of hours then days to fully open the resort after each storm.
Congratulations to the USA athletes that achieved International ranking for the 2024 FIS Masters Cup Season!
