X Games Medals for Anderson and Langland

ASPEN, CO (Jan. 29, 2016) – Two Americans earned podium positions at X Games Aspen in what was the most competitive and progressive slopestyle competition in snowboard history. Jamie Anderson (South Lake Tahoe, CA) earned her 11th career slopestyle medal with silver and young Hailey Langland (San Clemente, CA) had a breakout performance at her first X Games with bronze. Spencer O’Brien of Canada won gold.

Anderson was coming in fresh off of a broken collarbone that required surgery in December. The most decorated X Games slopestyle competitor in history, she had never missed the podium coming into X Games Aspen in 2016. She landed her first run, but needed to clean it up, and fell on a switch backside 540 on her second run. Coming down to her final run, Anderson put down a technical and stylish performance that earned her a spot on the podium, her fifth silver medal.

Only 15 years old, Langland is an X Games rookie, but she rode with the poise of a seasoned veteran. Langland came out swinging on her first run, landing a stylish pass that put her in the gold medal position for the first half of the competition. She upped the technicality on her second run, and though she was eventually bumped to bronze, it was a stellar performance at her first X Games.

“Today went amazing. It’s a good day to be alive—that’s for sure,” Langland said. “It hasn’t really sunk in yet but I’m probably going to freak out later - this honestly feels like a dream.” Langland also took third at the first major competition of the year: the Breckenridge Dew Tour in December.

Snowboarding at the X Games continues Friday night with men’s snowboard big air. Watch for Kyle Mack (West Bloomfield, MI) to make his X Games debut.

QUOTES

Jamie Anderson
I’m so proud of myself and I want to work harder—this event brings that energy. I was struggling today—I switched up my run completely at the end. I never did that backside rodeo on the bigger jump and I was so scared. But to be able to overcome and at least put something down, I’m really thankful and proud. With my injury coming back, I’m so proud of myself and my physical body.

Hailey Langland
I just wanted to have as much fun as I could. This is an amazing course and just to be able to ride it and do what I want to do is awesome and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I haven’t done a Cab 720 since Dew Tour so to be able to pull out a run from the back of my mind was amazing. I’ve been struggling with my frontside 720s the past two practice days so to finally get it today was unbelievable and I am so happy. It’s so awesome to watch the progression of women’s snowboarding.
