Volunteers: Parent Worker Volunteers sign up will be available via DIBS.

U14 Rocky Central Championship Qualifying:

The Rocky/Central (R/C) U14 Junior Championships will be held at Vail, Colorado. Qualification Method to the R/C U14 Junior Championships – is via the 1 Central Division qualifying weekend. The R/C U14 event brings together the top racers in Central and Rocky. Discipline and combined awards will be presented to the top ten finishers. Combined winners will be determined using the World Cup Point System (i.e. 1st = 100pts, 2nd = 80pts, 3rd = 60 pts, 4th = 50, 5th =45 etc.). The details are in the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Competition Guide. This Championship event will be used for selection to the U16 National Championships as well as U14 Can-Ams.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Central Division has a quota of 95 athletes to the R/C U14 Junior Championships. For the 2021-2022 season, the Central Division will hold 1 qualifying series for CR1,2,3,4 for selections to the Rocky/Central Junior Championships, over a 3-day weekend. The series will consist of 3 GS and 3 SL USSS non-scored races. Athletes will be selected for the R/C Junior Championships by using the combined rankings from the best three of six total races, where no more than 2 races can come from the same discipline (example: 2GS AND 1SL or 2SL AND 1 GS). Rankings per race will be determined by using a modified World Cup Points (top 45) in each race run. If a race or day is cancelled, best efforts to complete 2 GS and 2 SL race runs will take priority.

Using the single best result will break ties. If a tie still exists, the next best result would be used, and this process will continue until the tie is broken. If a tie is still not broken, race points will be used in the same process. All eligible qualifying races will be considered for tie-breaking purposes.

U16 Rocky Central Championship Qualifying:

Qualifying Spreadsheet

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Central Division has a quota of 50 athletes to the R/C U16 Junior Championships. For the 2021-2022 season, the Central Division will hold 1 qualifying series for R1,2,3,4, for selections to the Rocky/Central Junior Championships, over a 3-day weekend at the Central Division Bob Hosking U16 Championships. The series will run from Friday through Sunday. Races will include 1 SG, 2 GS, 2 SL races. The best 3 of 5 races will count to overall

scoring. World Cup point scoring down to 60 athletes will be used to rank athletes. First tier of 25 athletes will qualify for Rocky/Central Jr. Championship, Steamboat, Colorado March 7th-11th.

A second tier of 20 athletes per gender will qualify for secondary Rocky/Central Jr. event in Crested Butte, Colorado March 3rd-6th, 2022. (SG Tr 3rd, SG 4th, GS 5th, SL 6th.)  Athletes can move up a tier, but cannot drop down.  The series will consist of 1 SG, 2 GS and 2 SL National scored races. National points will seed athletes for these events. Rankings for the 1 SG, will be determined by using the most current SG National Points List, at the time the qualifying series events begins, and using a double blind selection board. All rankings will be determined by using a modified World Cup Points (top 60). Rocky Central SYNC Junior Championship Jackets will be available for purchase for both events.

Seeding for RC U16 Jr Championships will be as follows:

  1. The first seed of 15 will be determined based on national points and shall be randomly drawn.
  2. A special seed will follow the first seed such that each division’s top eight nationally ranked skiers will be within the first seed or the special seed. If either division does not have at least eight skiers in the first seed, then its remaining top eight ranked skiers will start in the special seed, in national point order. For example, if there are 8 Central athletes and 7 RMD athletes in the first seed of 15, there would be 1 RMD athlete in the special seed. Or, 10 RMD athletes and 5 Central athletes in the first seed, there would be 3 Central athletes in the special seed.
  3. The remainder of the field will be seeded by national points following the special seed.

The Kelly Brush Foundation is excited to announce that our 2021 Ski Racing Safety Grant Program application is now OPEN. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, June 30.

More information and apply here >

Please share this email with everyone on the team at your club that makes on-hill safety as well as budget decisions.

We at the Kelly Brush Foundation hope safety is always a priority discussion at your club. Since Kelly's injury in 2006 we have been committed to leading the discussion on safety and have backed up our advocacy with over 190 grants to clubs around the country to improve safety on their venue. If you have any questions about our grant program, your application, or anything else about the Kelly Brush Foundation's ski racing safety mission, don't hesitate to reach out.

About the KBF Ski Racing Safety Equipment Grant Program

The Kelly Brush Foundation Ski Racing Safety Grant Program is intended to help Alpine ski race programs and venues purchase safety equipment. All grants are matching (meaning we will only fund up to half of an equipment purchase). We have been administering this program for 15 years in addition to the safety advocacy and educational programming we provide the ski racing community.

About the KBF

Since Kelly sustained a spinal cord injury ski racing in an NCAA D-I race in 2006, we are proud of the change we've driven in the culture of safety. We have helped purchase over 15 miles of b-netting, supported trail widening projects, and contributed to other safety measures at hundreds of venues around the country. We are confident that every US Ski & Snowboard Alpine racer around the country races at at least one venue (or many more) every year that we have made safer.
