Most of the results from the season are now in the books. Successes against goals set are now being measured. It's a long season for the athletes. Their mental focus and physical energy can easily start to wane. This is an important time for coach, athlete and parent to reflect on the year and make a plan for the future. The athlete that came up short of their goals needs their coach's help to develop a plan that will drive the motivation to keep going. The athlete who had success needs guidance in setting new goals to continue to strive.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard Director of Alpine Sports Science, Per Lundstam, worked as the U.S. Alpine Ski Team's head strength coach from 1994 to 2010, before taking on an exciting new opportunity with Red Bull as Director of Performance. Lucky for the U.S. Ski Team, Lundstam returned to the team last fall after an 11-year stint with Red Bull. 

Ski Racing's Edie Thys Morgan recently caught up with Lundstam to discuss his background, work with Red Bull and the U.S. Ski Team, vision for the alpine program, and beyond.

PARK CITY, UT (March 17, 2015) – The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association has announced plans to hire an alpine development director, responsible for all aspects of domestic alpine development. The director will be responsible for all elite domestic programs below the U.S. Ski Team’s A, B and C Teams, reporting directly to USSA Alpine Director Patrick Riml.

The new position stems from the USSA’s recognition of the importance of alpine development in the USA, and its commitment to further evolving and refining its programs.

PARK CITY, UT (May 13, 2015)—The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) is taking a deeper look at college ski racing as a viable component of the U.S. Ski Team pipeline with the introduction of a National University Team for alpine ski racing.
