COPPER MOUNTAIN, CO (Nov. 8) – The sun was shining down on Center Village today where a huge crowd congregated for the 2015 U.S. Alpine Ski Team to be introduced during Nature Valley First Tracks at Copper Mountain. The energy at Copper Mountain, home of the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center, was palpable.
PARK CITY, UT (May 17) – Four-time World Champion and giant slalom title winner Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) was honored by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association with the Beck International Award, the organization’s highest athlete honor. The USSA also recognized Barry "Bear" Bryant of the Sunday River Ski and Snowboard Club with its Julius Blegen Award, the highest volunteer service honor, for years of service to the sport. The awards were presented May 17 in Park City at the annual USSA Congress at the Park City Marriott.
As we encounter the many challenges and hardships of the current COVID world, we are also coming face to face with social inequalities that exist in our country, and chief among those at this moment is racial inequality. It’s difficult to know what to do about something like that in our little bubble of alpine ski racing. Is there even anything we can do? How can we chart a path forward that might help address some of the inequalities we see in our sport?
PARK CITY, UT (May 3, 2017) – U.S. Cross Country Ski Team head women’s coach Matt Whitcomb and Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club’s Nichole Mason have been named 2017 International and Domestic Coach of the Year by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. Whitcomb and Mason, along with 11 other domestic and international coaches, will be formally recognized at the Chairman’s Awards Dinner on May 11 during the annual USSA Congress in Park City.
