In his first Olympic Winter Games, Scott Patterson posted three top-20 finishes in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Patterson made his world cup debut in the 2015-2016 season in Nova Mesto, the Czech Republic as the Supertour leader. The following season he scored his first World Cup points in South Korea and followed this up with several other top-30 results in the 2016-2017 season. Prior to world cup racing, Patterson had success at World Junior Championships and U23 World Championships with multiple top 20 results. Patterson is known as a distance specialist and focuses on 15k races and longer.  He trains with Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center.

A 2014 graduate from the University of Vermont with degrees in mechanical engineering and mathematics, Paterson currently works part-time at Coffman Engineers in Anchorage doing mostly oil and gas consulting work.

Q: What is your favorite memory as a competitor?
A: My favorite memory is the first trip I ever qualified for, the Arctic Winter Games when I was 13. The trip was only a 2-hour bus ride from home, but still it was big to be going someplace for a whole week. We sleep in a school classroom, ate in the cafeteria, and occasionally ski raced. It felt like the Olympics as a 13-year-old.

Q: Tell us something quirky about yourself that people would be amused to learn.
A: I still use the same lunch bag now as I did in 7th grade.

Q: When you're not skiing, what are you doing for fun?
A: Playing in the mountains with backcountry skis, climbing gear, my packraft, or other human-powered adventure devices.

Q: Who's the most famous person you've ever met?
A: Lindsey Vonn
