Swensson Leads Again in SX

ST. JOHANN, Austria (Jan.  7) - New-kid-on-the-block Joe Swensson (Niantic, CT) earned his third top 20 of the year by finishing 13th in Saturday night's World Cup skicross under the lights in front of 7,000 spectators at St. Johann. John Teller (Mammoth Mountain, CA) finished 18th. and Pat Duran narrowly missed qualifying heats coming in 35th. The tour moves to Alpe d Huez, France on Jan. 10.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Joe Swensson skied the fastest qualifying time for the men’s field. John Teller qualified tenth.
  • Pat Duran (N. Fayston, VT) narrowly missed heats, qualifying 35th.
  • Biche Rudigoz (Ketchum, ID) was 58th, Robert Mahre (Selah, WA) 60th and Trevor Donovan Ricioli (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) 66th.
  • Tania Prymak (Goshen, NY) was the only American woman to compete but failed to finish the qualifying run.
  • Audi FIS Freestyle Skicross World Cup continues Jan. 10-11 in Alpe d'Huez, France.

It was such a cool experience racing in front of that many people under the lights. My teammates were really supportive and it definitely helped having them at the start and finish. I had trouble in the start in both heats but had some luck in the first round. In the quarters I just couldn't get around the other guys."
