BOKWANG, South Korea (Feb. 18, 2016) – The official Olympic snowboarding slopestyle test event will take place at the venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics this weekend, with the first FIS World Cup slopestyle event ever held in South Korea.

Bokwang Phoenix Park features a three-jump and three-rail slopestyle course, purposely built for the 2018 Winter Olympics. The course was designed and created by German course builders Schneestern, famous for their terrain parks at Montafon, the Stubai Glacier and various other locations across Europe.

Olympic snowboarding hopefuls will spend valuable time familiarizing themselves with the slopestyle course that will be featured at the 23rd edition of the Olympic Winter Games as they also work towards the overall World Cup Crystal Globe award.

Qualifiers took place Friday, with Brandon Davis (Mammoth Lakes, CA) qualifying first for the men with a 91.75. Chris Corning (Arvada, CO) qualified first in his round, while Ryan Stassel (Anchorage, AK) and Brock Crouch (Mammoth Mountain, CA) also grabbed spots in the finals. Red Gerard (Silverthorne, CO), Lyon Farrell (Haiku, HI) and Chandler Hunt (Park City, UT) did not qualify.

Jamie Anderson (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) and Karly Shorr (Milford, MI) moved to the finals for the women. Jessika Jenson (Rigby, ID), Nora Healey (Plymouth, NH), Hailee Mattingley (Sandy, UT), Julianne O’Neill (Silverthorne, CO), Julia Marino (Westport, CT) and Kirra Kotsenburg (Park City, UT) did not make the cut.

Finals take place Saturday night and will be streamed live on NBC Sports Live Extra starting at 11:00 p.m. ET.

QUOTES

Ryan Stassel
Korea is very cool! The people here are all really nice and seem to be super excited we are here. There're lots of rail variations, and some new looking jump options. Should be interesting to see what every ones does.
