Shiffrin Top-10 in Sweden

December, 12 2014

ARE, Sweden (Dec. 12) - Tina Maze continued her quest for the overall Audi FIS Ski World Cup title with her third win in three different disciplines this season, taking the giant slalom in Are. Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) skied to tenth in the opening race of the weekend, originally scheduled for snow-starved Courchevel, France. Rising Swedish star Sara Hector skied from 25th into second while first-run-leading Eva-Maria Brem of Austria was third.

Shiffrin skied solid but not as aggressively as she wanted in the first run, going out second and finishing the run in eighth, one spot behind Maze and .78 from the leader Brem in a tightly packed field. In the second run, Shiffrin dropped to tenth while Maze charged up to take the lead and the victory. Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) just made the flip at 30th, but went out in the second run. Megan McJames (Park City, UT) missed the top 30.

"I felt like I attacking a lot harder and I thought that would help my time, but I ended up losing time again," said Shiffrin of her second run.

The men are up next in Are, with Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) leading the charge under the lights. Second run will be live on Universal Sports beginning at 12:30 p.m. EST.

QUOTES
Mikaela Shiffrin

I felt like I attacking a lot harder and I thought that would help my time, but I ended up losing time again.

I’m really excited to get back into slalom racing tomorrow but it’s a tough competition and I have to attack. It’s been a tricky start to the season. I’ve been lucky in my career so far - everything’s been in place and my skiing’s been so good. I’m just trying to get that feeling back and make sure I have everything in place so when I get into the start on race I’m comfortable to ski fast.

I’m trying to stay positive and look at the good side but also be tough on myself and figure out what I can do better.
