Prymak seventh in World Cup Skicross
AROSA, Switzerland (Dec. 13, 2016) - Under the lights in Arosa, American Tania Prymak (Goshen, NY) skied to seventh in a FIS World Cup skicross event - the best finish ever by a U.S. woman.
Marielle Thompson of Canada won for the women with Swiss Romain Detraz taking the men’s competition.
The finish was another vital steppingstone for Prymak who has been quietly making her way up the international ranking list. Last February she finished 10th in the World Cup Olympic test event in Bokwang, South Korea - then an American best for women.
“The race was definitely a change of pace as it was a night event and a sprint event, but I was able to adapt to these variables and ski well,” said Prymak. “I was really excited with my personal best result of seventh in a World Cup!”
Pyrmak qualified 16th and was up against the eventual winner Thompson in the quarterfinal heat, finishing second and advancing to semifinals. In the semis, she again drew Thompson’s heat, finishing third and moving on to the small final where she finished third to take seventh overall.
The New York native got her start skiing at Hidden Valley Ski Area in New Jersey, eventually advancing her way through the system as a top junior alpine racer. She went on to attend and race for Vermont’s Burke Mountain Academy. While at a Burke summer training camp at Mt. Hood, OR, she saw skicross for the first time and was hooked.
American Brant Crossan (Steamboat Springs, CO) qualified second, eventually finishing 17th.
The tour now heads to Montafon, Austria with qualifying Thursday and competition Saturday.
