Olympic champion and Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team athlete Red Gerard finished on the podium in third in the Visa Big Air presented by Toyota at Colorado's Copper Mountain.

The Visa Big Air featured many of the world’s best snowboarders as they gathered to take on the enormous jump, where runs are judged on difficulty, amplitude, variety and progression.

It's a Colorado bluebird day as Gerard took on the massive feature in Copper and ultimately took home the third spot in his home state in front of his friends and family. He earned himself his 11th World Cup career podium, just a week after he clenched third in Edmonton Big Air World Cup.

Gerard took three runs in finals: switch backside triple 16, back 18 melon and then on his third and final run he was bumped out of the third spot but ultimately answered on the next run with his classic clean switch backside 16 weddle, putting him back in podium position.

Hiroaki Kunitake of Japan nabbed the number one spot and Sam Vermaat of Netherlands the number two.

On the women’s side of things, Hailey Langland just missed the podium in fourth, executing switch front 900 weddle, front 900 slob air and on her third run dropping in switch again with cab 1080 weddle.

Kokomo Murase of Japan nabbed the number one spot and executing a never-been-done trick: back triple 1440 weddle. She was the first woman to compete two 14s and two triples, making history at the Visa Big Air. Mari Fukada of Japan came in second and Mia Brookes of Great Britain was third.

Olympic silver medalist in slopestyle Julia Marino also made finals, but had trouble putting down her tricks and finished in seventh. Rori Avelar of Park City Ski & Snowboard also made finals, but fell during practice and did not start.

Jake Canter, Sean FitzSimons, Fynn Bullock-Womble, Brooklyn DePriest, Chris Corning, Brock Crouch, Lucas Ferry, Judd Henke, Liam Johnson, Luke Winkelmann, Rebecca Flynn and Courtney Rummel were also in Copper for the competition but did not advance to finals.

The Visa Big Air presented by Toyota wrapped up the big air World Cups on the circuit, with the FIS Crystal Globes being handed out at the finish to Kira Kimura for the men and Brookes for the women, marking them the most dominant big air riders on the World Cup circuit in the 2023-24 season. Langland and Gerard were named the U.S. national champions.

The Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team slopestyle/big air athletes now have a long break before traveling to Laax, Switzerland Jan. 17-20 for the next World Cup.

Olympic champion and Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team athlete Red Gerard finished on the podium in third in the FIS Style Experience Snowboard Big Air World Cup in Edmonton, Canada.

The Edmonton World Cup featured many of the world’s best snowboarders as they gathered to take on the large scaffolding jump, where runs are judged on creativity and style over "spin-to-win" tactics.

Gerard took on the massive feature in Edmonton and ultimately clenched the third spot among the stacked field, earning himself his 10th World Cup career podium. One of the world’s top big air competitors, this type of contest and style of jump is Gerard's bread and butter. He took three runs and executed three tricks: switch back 1620 weddle, back 1620 melon and back 1800 melon.

Taiga Hasegawa of Japan nabbed the number one spot and Yiming Su of China the number two.

Gerard was the only U.S. snowboarder to make the finals in men’s and women’s competitions. Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team rider Luke Winkelmann advanced to semifinals and teammates Jake Canter, Sean FitzSimons, Fynn Bullock-Womble, Brooklyn DePriest and Hailey Langland were also in Edmonton for the competition but did not advance to semifinals or finals.

Next up, the Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team slopestyle/big air athletes will travel back stateside for the Visa Big Air Presented by Toyota in Copper Mountain, Dec. 13-16.

Maddie Mastro led the Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team halfpipe athletes as they returned to the same venue as the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China's Secret Garden. Mastro walked away with a podium in third, while teammates Bea Kim and Chase Josey were just off the podium in fourth, and Lucas Foster was seventh.

Two-time Olympian Mastro took home third in the first of five stops of the 2023-24 snowboard halfpipe World Cup circuit. Before each drop-in, Mastro visualized her run and took a moment of reflection before throwing down for her 12th World Cup podium. Just one spot behind Mastro, up-and-comer Kim scored her personal best in just her second World Cup start.

Team China took spots one and two for the women with Xuetong Cai in first and Jiayu Liu in second.

On the men’s side, two-time Olympian Chase Josey put down solid runs to land himself in the fourth place position. Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team teammate Lucas Foster also dropped into the pipe throwing a double alley-oop mctwist, a trick never been done in a contest before, to finish in seventh overall.

Aussie Scotty James took home first, Ruka Hirano of Japan was second and Chaeun Lee finished out the podium in third.

Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team athletes Kinsley White, Chase Blackwell, Levko Fedorowycz and Joey Okesson were also in China for the competition, but did not make finals.

Next up the snowboard halfpipe team heads to the Toyota Grand Prix in Copper Mountain Dec. 13-16.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard is set to host three freeski and snowboard domestic World Cup events this season: the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix and Visa Big Air presented by Toyota at Copper Mountain Resort Dec. 13-16, 2023 and the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain Jan. 31-Feb. 3, 2024.

The Toyota U.S. Grand Prix is the longest-running winter action sports tour and has served as a major part of the Stifel U.S. Freeski Team and Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team Olympic qualification series since 1998. This December, the world’s best freeskiers and snowboarders will return to “The Athlete’s Mountain” at Copper Mountain to compete in men’s and women’s halfpipe and big air events. On Dec. 15 and 16, freeski and snowboard athletes, including three-time Olympic medalist Nick Goepper, world champion Hanna Faulhaber and Olympic snowboarders Chase Josey and Maddie Mastro will drop into Copper’s legendary 22-foot superpipe for finals.

"The success of the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix and Visa Big Air presented by Toyota is led by its amazing resort partners, Copper and Mammoth Mountain,” said Eric Webster, Senior Director of Events at U.S. Ski & Snowboard. “These resorts have a proven track record of delivering world class snowboard and freeski events. U.S. Ski & Snowboard is grateful for their many years of partnership and support, and we look forward to these great events this season.”

Returning to Copper Mountain once again is the Visa Big Air presented by Toyota contest, where athletes will launch themselves off a 70-foot jump in Copper Mountain’s Center Village. Many Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team athletes are set to compete, including Chris Corning and Hailey Langland who both took home second place in the event last year, along with Stifel U.S. Freeski Team Olympic Champion Alex Hall and teammate Rell Harwood. Finals for the snowboard big air will take place on Dec. 15, with freeski big air finals on Dec. 16.

"Copper Mountain is thrilled to once again host the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix, and the Visa Big Air presented by Toyota event at our elite level venues,” said Dustin Lyman, President and General Manager, Copper Mountain. “As an Official Training Center for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard team, we take pride in supporting athletes at every stage of their journey. Fostering success for world-class athletes is a key part of that, and we are looking forward to another season of competitive pursuits."

Mammoth has hosted the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix more than a dozen times and is excited to welcome back the top skiers and riders to California in February. Some familiar faces set to compete in the halfpipe include Stifel U.S. Freeski Team athlete and 2022-23 FIS freeski halfpipe overall Crystal Globe winner Birk Irving and sister, X Games medalist, Svea Irving. Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team athlete and two-time Olympic champion Chloe Kim is set to return this season to competition at her home mountain, as well as Chase Blackwell who nabbed third in the event last season. Freeski halfpipe finals will take place on Feb. 2, with snowboard halfpipe finals on Feb. 3.

The slopestyle events will take place in Mammoth’s legendary Unbound Terrain Park. Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team athletes and 2022-23 overall FIS snowboard slopestyle Crystal Globe winners Dusty Henricksen and Julia Marino will compete as well as three-time X Games medalist and Olympian Mac Forehand and teammate Rell Harwood. Snowboard slopestyle finals will take place on Feb. 2, with freeski slopestyle finals on Feb. 3.

“Mammoth is thrilled to continue the tradition of providing an exceptional competition venue for the world’s best athletes,” said Michelle Tomaier Director of Events, Sponsorships and Athletes, Mammoth Mountain “Mammoth and our famous Unbound Terrain Parks have been in the game for many years and we are all looking forward to Chloe’s return to the main stage after taking time off last season, right here at her home mountain.”

Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team athlete and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Lindsey Jacobellis finished in sixth place in the first snowboard cross World Cup races of the season in Les Deux Alpes (L2A).

It was a stunning winter day with plenty of snow and sun in the French Alps after a week of tough weather conditions that ultimately led to qualifications getting moved from Friday, Dec. 1 to today, Dec. 3. The experienced legend, Jacobellis, took on the 10 challenging features of the race course to make her way through qualifications, quarterfinals, semifinals and ultimately small finals, finishing in sixth. This comes only a day after her third place finish with teammate Jake Vedder in the snowboard cross mixed team event.

"Les Deux Alpes really went out on a great race," said Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team snowboard cross Head Coach Rob Fagan. "Incredible work effort from the organizers to handle all the wild weather and snow. I am proud of the team with their efforts. The athletes kept focus and determination throughout the week. The team race yesterday and today’s individual race showed how deep our talent is on the team. Our veteran and new young guns will be a podium threat all season."

Six athletes made the finals, Lindsey Jacobellis sixth, Stacy Gaskill 11th, Cody Winters 12th, Senna Leith 13th, Jake Vedder 21st and Nathan Pare 31st.

Bri Schnorrbusch, Tyler Hamel, Nick Baumgartner, Boden Gerry and Connor Schlegel were also in L2A to compete but did not qualify for finals.

Up next, the team travels to Cervinia, Italy on Dec. 15-17.

Vedder & Jacobellis Third in First Snowboard Cross World Cup

Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team athletes Jake Vedder and Lindsey Jacobellis secured third place in the big final of the snowboard cross (SBX) World Cup season opener mixed team event in Les Deux Alpes (L2A).

Weather posed the most significant challenge at the L2A resort, situated at the highest snowboard cross course on the World Cup circuit. Originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1, individual competition qualifications were rescheduled due to tough weather conditions. Consequently, the snowboard cross weekend schedule underwent a slight change, with individual competition moved to Sunday, Dec. 3, and the newly added mixed team event taking its place on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Despite a challenging cold start and extremely difficult visibility towards the end, Vedder and Jacobellis navigated the steep and jumpy course, progressing through the quarterfinals and semifinals to secure a spot in the big finals. In the final race, Vedder faced a fast-paced challenge, finishing fourth with only half a second to catch up. Jacobellis, the most decorated female snowboard cross athlete of all time, tackled the course, making up time. Upon entering the cloud at the course's end, Jacobellis experienced a slight loss of speed and went over the heel edge. Despite the setback, she recovered and secured a third place finish for Team USA.

The first win of the season went to Great Britain’s Huw Nightingale and Charlotte Banks, with France’s Loan Bozzolo and Chloe Trespeuch securing second place.

Nick Baumgartner and Stacy Gaskill also participated in the mixed team event, finishing 11th overall.

Next up, men’s and women’s individual competition snowboard cross finals in Les Deux Alpes tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 3. Watch LIVE on skiandsnowboard.live.
