Sport Development Manager Halfpipe, Slopestyle/Big Air, Parallel Giant Slalom

Position Summary 

 

The purpose of this position is to organize and manage a high quality domestic program in Snowboard & Freeski Halfpipe, Slopestyle/Big Air, and PGS.  The position is established to build a system and structure that is sustainable and understandable to the individuals interested in participating. 

 

The Sport Development Manager will work to develop and manage a high quality domestic program for athletes, coaches, officials, and judges in the United States.   This program is intended to educate and train these individuals to develop a stable infrastructure to attract and retain participants in all areas of athletics that support the concept of excellence in sport.  This position works closely with the Sport Director, team staff, athletes, and other U.S. Ski & Snowboard Departments. Along with all major stakeholders within the sport community including; clubs, coaches, athletes, parents, resorts, judges, officials, volunteers and other relevant stakeholders 

 

Position Responsibilities 

 

  • Design, develop and deliver a comprehensive development system for the athletes, coaches, and officials, fostering the principles of: clear path, content, athlete management and integrated education and development. 

  • Oversee the operations of the development pipeline including planning and implementation. Including building the National Training System. 

  • Work closely with U.S. Ski & Snowboard clubs and USASA to build a comprehensive sport development pipeline and build partnership between stakeholders 

  • Supervise and manage the domestic events calendar to ensure an athletically balanced competition calendar that is in-sync domestically and internationally with major events. Manage NorAm coordination including relevant representation on NorAm Committees 

  • Develop and implement Project Gold Talent Identification programs and other talent programs that may evolve in future.  

  • Coordinate FIS and U.S. Ski & Snowboard rules and policy as they apply.  Oversee, manage and operate advancement systems, quotas, rankings, and entries, that are consistent with the development pipelines.  

  • Coordinate and manage educational projects in conjunction with Sports Science, Education and other educational organizations (USASA, AASI, PSIA) that focus on providing coaches and officials with current information. 

  • Design and development of Coaches Education Certification structure in conjunction with Education Department, that provides a clear path for coaches seeking education, advancement and recognition.  

  • Drive the direction of the Snowboard and Freeski Sport Committees, in conjunction with the Sport Committee Chairman, to implement sport development goals and objectives. Plan and manage the Snowboard and Freeski Sport Committees and U.S. Ski & Snowboard Congress meetings, including relevant Sport Committee awards  

  • Develop and manage the domestic budget annually  

  • Produce and manage specific information distribution for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard website and other content locations to effectively communicate to stakeholders  

  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of selection criteria and management of Junior World Championship Teams annually. 

  • Work closely with Program Director to solve other team and program related issues as needed

  • Experience in and knowledge about the sport of snowboard and freeski 

  • Significant domestic travel and some international travel
