Former National Training Group (NTG) athlete turned heads during the 2015 season at U.S. Alpine Championships in Sugarloaf, Maine when she snagged a podium amongst juniors in giant slalom. Her solid stint as an NTG athlete allowed her to propel on to the D Team for the 2016 season. She did it again in 2016 when she grabbed a pair of podiums at U.S. Alpine Championships in Sun Valley, Idaho and topped the super-G podium amongst juniors. She made the jump to the C Team in 2017, and to the World Cup in 2018, where she scored her first World Cup points at Lenzerheide, with a 19th place in alpine combined. That finish snagged her a spot on her very first Olympic Team in PyeongChang.
It all started for Patricia (a.k.a. "Tricia"), who—at just two years old—when her parents strapped her and twin brother William into a tiny pair of skis and let 'em go from the top of the bunny hill. Apparently, William made it to the bottom first (debatable, she notes) and thereby won their first ski race ever. She then spent the majority of her early ski racing years chasing down William and trying to keep up with their two older brothers at Holimont Ski area in Ellicottville, N.Y.: a quest that sparked her love of competition and going fast!
OFF THE SNOW
When not on snow, Mangan is a biomedical engineering student at Dartmouth College, where she recently completed spring and summer terms. At Dartmouth and elsewhere, she can’t get enough of adventuring outside and finding new places to do thrilling things with friends, be it cliff jumping, biking, or good old-fashioned exploring! When she's lucky enough to be home, she loves spending time with her five siblings and parents, partaking in various sports, heated debates, and unrivaled excitement. Trish and teammate Nina—who also attends Dartmouth—have recently started a column in Ski Racing as well.
Q: When you're not skiing or snowboarding, what are you doing for fun?
A: Adventuring outside with friends doing things that scare or excite me.
Q: If you could be a Disney character, who would you be and why?
A: I would want to be Jack Jack from the Incredibles because he does awesome things and then laughs about them.
