Men's Downhill Title to be Decided at Finals

KVITFJELL, Norway (March 3) - The men's Audi FIS Alpine World Cup downhill title was pushed to the wire Saturday as Austrian Klaus Kroell snagged the discpline lead from Swiss Didier Cuche with a victory on the 1994 Olympic track. With just one downhill remaining on March 14 at World Cup Finals in Schladming, Austria, Kroell carries a 48 point lead over Cuche, who finished 10th on the day. Another Swiss, Beat Feuz, was fourth to bump his overall lead to 55 points ahead of Marcel Hircher of Austria, who did not compete. Travis Ganong (Squaw Valley, CA) was the top U.S. finisher in 30th.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Austrian Klaus Kroell won the Kvitfjell downhill to snag the dicsipline lead from Swiss Didier Cuche, who finished 10th.
• Beat Fuez, also Swiss, was fourth to bump his World Cup overall lead to 55 points over Austrian Marcel Hirscher.
• Norwegians Kjetil Jansrud and Aksel Lund Svindal finished 2-3.
• Erik Fisher (Middleton, ID) was on his way to a podium finish before crashing out mid race.
• Travis Ganong (Squaw Valley, CA) was the top U.S. finisher in 30th.
• Only the March 14 World Cup Finals downhill remains with the top 25 World Cup athletes and the Junior World Champion qualified to compete.
• Ryan Cochran-Siegle (Starksboro, VT) won the Junior World Championships downhill Friday to earn a downhill start at Finals
• Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) qualified for Finals with fourth in the downhill standings, but will not compete due to a season-ending injury.
• A super G is scheduled for Sunday to close the speed weekend in Kvitfjell.
