Jacobellis Leads U.S. In Final World Cup
BAQUEIRA BERET, Spain (March 20, 2016) – The final snowboardcross FIS World Cup of the season was held in Baqueira Beret on Sunday, with several Americans making the small final to earn top-10 finishes.
Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT) was the top finisher for the ladies in sixth place and teammate Faye Gulini (Salt Lake City, UT) was right behind her in seventh. Danielle Steinhoff (Colfax, CA) finished 15th and Colleen Healey (Truckee, CA) was 16th.
Belle Brockhoff of Australia took her first World Cup win, with Eva Samkova of Czech Republic in second and Chloe Trespeuch of France third.
Alex Deibold (Boulder, CO) was the top American finisher for the men, finishing seventh out of the small final. Hagen Kearney (Telluride, CO) finished 10th, Mick Dierdorff (Steamboat Springs, CO) finished 13th, Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI) finished 22nd and Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) was 30th.
Brockhoff's teammate Alex Pullin won his sixth race, with Kevin Hill of Canada in second and Lucas Eguibar third on his home track.
Overall, Michela Moioli of Italy took home her first crystal globe by just 40 points after winning the small final, with Jacobellis the top American in sixth overall. Among the men, Pierre Vaultier of France won his fourth career crystal globe. Baumgartner was sixth.
