Gerard Fifth in Dew Tour Debut

BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Dec. 13, 2015) – The Dew Tour Breckenridge wrapped up Sunday afternoon with the men’s snowboard slopestyle event. Three Americans made it to the final round, including 15-year-old U.S. rookie slopestyle team member Red Gerard (Silverthorne, CO), who placed fifth.

Mark McMorris of Canada won his third Dew Tour title in four years, sealing the deal with a backside triplecork 1440 mute. Norwegian rider Stale Sandbech earned the second spot on the podium. Sandbech also dropped a triple on the final jump but McMorris still beat him by four points. Darcy Sharpe of Canada rounded out the podium, adding to his Friday-night win in the Streetstyle event.

Gerard landed a frontside 1260 tailgrab off the final jump; it was the first time he had landed the trick in competition. A regular on the Revolution Tour podium, Gerard was one of several U.S. team young guns to fare well at this year’s Dew Tour: Chloe Kim (La Palma, CA), 14, placed second in women’s snowboard superpipe; Hailey Langland (San Clemente, CA), 15, took third in women’s snowboard slopestyle; Birk Irving (Winter Park, CO), 16, was ninth in men’s ski superpipe; Gabe Ferguson (Bend, OR), 16, placed ninth in men’s snowboard superpipe.

Chas Guldemond (Reno, NV) was looking strong on his second run after landing a switch double wildcat to Cab 1440 but washed out on a triple cork on the last jump. The defending Dew Tour champ ended up in seventh. U.S. team member Kyle Mack (West Bloomfield, MI) was unable to land a run, finishing 12th.

• Fifteen-year-old Red Gerard was the top-finishing American. He finished fifth at his first Dew Tour appearance (first major pro-level competition ever). Gerard is a member of the U.S. rookie slopestyle team.

Obviously it didn’t go the way I wanted it to - I didn’t get that triple on the last jump. If I would’ve landed it, it would’ve been a good score, so just knowing that I still got it is a good feeling. I’m just happy to be in the final and put up a run that can contend.
