Corning Podiums at World Champs Slopestyle
SIERRA NEVADA, Spain (Mar. 11, 2017) – Chris Corning (Silverthorne, CO) scored a podium finish in slopestyle at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships on Saturday and Karly Shorr (Milford, MI) came in fourth for the ladies.
It’s been warm in Sierra Nevada, and organizers have been working hard to maintain the slopestyle course. “The course has been good,” Corning said after the event. “It’s been tough because it’s been so hot and when they groom it’s super bumpy—it’s never been smooth so that’s kind of been tough to work with.”

Despite the challenges, Corning rode well with a run that included a backside triple cork 1440. Belgium’s Seppe Smits took the win and Swiss rider Nicolas Huber was second.
Shorr was the top American woman, finishing just off the podium in fourth. After a solid first run, Shorr was looking to up her score with a frontside 720 in the second run, but couldn’t quite land it. “I definitely wanted that frontside 720 in the second run,” she said. “I just need to go back and work on it a little more—get that landing down. But I was really stoked with how I rode today and I’m happy with fourth.”

Laurie Blouin of Canada won for the women, Zoi Sadowski Synnott of New Zealand was second and Japan’s Miyabi Onitsuka was third.
Other Americans in the finals: Jessika Jenson (Rigby, ID) was sixth and Dylan Thomas (Brooklyn, PA) was 10th.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Chris Corning was third for the men. His first run scored 82.50: Cab 1080 off the toes, switch backside 900, backside triple cork 1440, frontside 1440, backside rodeo Cab 180 on frontside 360 out.
- Karly Shorr was fourth for the women. Her first run scored 68.15: switch backside 540, backside 360, corked frontside 360 backside 360.

Chris Corning is an athlete from Arvada, Colorado. Chris was part of the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club prior to joining the U.S. Team. He started snowboarding at the age of 7 and has excelled in the sport ever since. Soon after his beginning he won his first world cup at the young age of 15.
