2024-25 U.S. Para Snowboard Team Announced

PARK CITY, Utah (Sept. 17, 2024) - U.S. Ski & Snowboard is thrilled to announce the nine athletes who have accepted their nominations to the 2024-25 U.S. Para Snowboard Team across all classifications and disciplines. 

The 2024-25 U.S. Para Snowboard Team is highlighted by 2024 overall, banked slalom and snowboard cross Crystal Globe winner and 2024 “Best Athlete with a Disability” ESPY Award winner Brenna Huckaby and 2024 banked slalom and overall Crystal Globe winner Noah Elliott. Also headlining the team is two-time world champion and ESPY Award winner Zach Miller. Courtney Godfrey is new to the team this season after finishing the 2023-24 season ranked seventh in the world across banked slalom and snowboard cross events. 

“This is going to be a really exciting season for this team,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard Para Sport Director Erik Leirfallom. “We had an extremely successful season last year, bringing home six Crystal Globes and the Nations Cup. Heading into a World Championship year, I’m confident that the team will build on that momentum and continue growing.” 

The 2024-25 FIS Para Snowboard World Cup season will kick off in late November in Landgraaf, Netherlands with two banked slalom races. The team will bounce between competitions in Europe and training in the states before finishing their season at the World Championships in Big White, Canada in March.

Courtney Godfrey
Before Courtney took to the slopes competitively, she was a successful TV reporter in Minneapolis, MN. In September 2017, her life changed when she was involved in a boating accident that led to a lower leg amputation.

Darian Haynes was born with a Brachial Plexus injury and felt that most sports were unreachable for her while growing up. After moving to Hawaii in 2010, she found an adaptive surfing program and quickly started surfing competitively.

Strong grew up in Hawaii and found a love for the cement waves of the skate park at a young age. By the age of 13, Strong had inked his first skateboarding sponsorship, and by the time he was 17, he was on his way to a career as a professional skateboarder.

In 2008, while competing in a snowcross race, Mike Schultz drifted off course, flying off his snowmobile and landing on his left leg. He sustained a severe compound fracture to his knee and, after multiple surgeries, had his leg amputated above the knee.

Joe Pleban from Fredericksburg, Virginia has made a mark in the Para Snowboarding world. He has achieved a silver in the 2022 World cup, along with a tenth and thirteenth place.

Zach Miller
Zach was born with cerebral palsy and discovered snowboarding through the sports program at the Children's Hospital in Denver. Daniel Gale recruited Zach to join his snowboard team at age 13 and helped him progress into an elite athlete.

Brenna Huckaby, a three-time Paralympic gold medalist and five-time World Champion, was first introduced to Para snowboarding in 2013 after losing her right leg to cancer at age 14.

Keith Gabel
Gabel was introduced to snowboarding in 2000 and quickly developed a love for the sport. In June 2005, Gabel was involved in an industrial accident that crushed his left foot.

Noah Elliott
Noah learned about Para snowboarding through a camp he attended for children with cancer and was inspired by meeting an adaptive athlete. This event helped him start his journey, and he moved from the Midwest to begin training consistently.
