10th X Games Gold for Jacobellis
ASPEN, CO (Jan. 31, 2016) – Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT) earned her 10th X Games Snowboarder X medal on Sunday, while Trevor Jacob (Mammoth Lakes, CA) led the way for the men with his fifth-place finish.
It was a photo-finish for Jacobellis and Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic, with Jacobellis edging Samkova by a mere .041 second. Samkova had a great start but Jacobellis pushed past her when Samkova took too high of a line through one of the final turns. “I just had to go for that inside line,” Jacobellis said after the race. “I’d rather go for it and fall than just sit back and not have it work out.” Samkova earned silver while Moenne Loccoz of France took the bronze.
Faye Gulini (Salt Lake City, UT) was the only other American woman to make the final. She held the bronze-medal position for a bit, but finished fifth when she was passed up by Loccoz and Belle Brockhoff of Australia. Megan Tierney (Edwards, CO) was 10th.

Jacob was the fifth qualifier going into the heats and he looked strong throughout the race. He was the only American to make the Final, though Nate Holland (Sandpoint, ID) won the consolation round, finishing seventh overall. Jacob was riding for his friend and adventurer Johnny Strange, who died in fall 2015. Jarryd Hughes of Australia won gold. Alex Pullin of Australia earned silver and Konstantin Schad of Germany took bronze.
The other American men in the field: Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) was eighth, Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI) 10th, Alex Deibold (Manchester, VT) 13th, Hagen Kearney (Telluride, CO) 14th and Seth Wescott (Sugarloaf, ME) 19th.

Lindsey Jacobellis
Lindsey Jacobellis from Stratton Mountain, Vermont, is known as the most decorated athlete in the history of snowboard cross. She competed in her first X Games at the young age of 15, and sense has made many incredible accomplishments. She has won two golds and a silver medal in the 2022 Olympics and has been involved in five separate Olympics since 2006.
