Weibrecht Qualifies for World Cup Finals

KVITFJELL, Norway (March 4) - Olympic bronze medalist Andrew Weibrecht (Lake Placid, NY) rallied a bib one start into a trip to the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup Finals Sunday after finishing 23rd. It was a Norwegian 1-2 finish as Kjetil Jansrud and Aksel Lund Svindal took the top two spots in the Kvitfjell super G. Only the top 25 racers in each discipline qualify for the March 11-18 finals to be held in Schladming, Austria. Weibrecht matched his finish in the standings.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Andrew Weibrecht (Lake Placid, NY) was 23rd in the second Kvitfjell super G.
  • The result kept him 23rd in the World Cup super G standings and secured a trip to World Cup Finals March 11-18 in Schladming, Austria.
  • Norwegians Kjetil Jansrud and Aksel Lund Svindal finished first and second.
  • Svindal leads the World Cup super G standings by 42 points over Swiss Didier Cuche with the Finals race remaining.
  • Beat Feuz, also Swiss, was third and leads the overall standings by 115 points.
  • The men's tour moves to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia for a giant slalom and slalom next weekend.
  • Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) will return to action after skipping Kvitfjell to train in Soelden, Austria.
