Major Gift Officer

Regional Major Gift Officer for Northwest:  Bay Area, CA and Seattle, WA

Position Summary

The Regional Major Gift Officer will engage prospects and major donors in the region, and solicit funds for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard.  The Major Gift Officer will oversee the major gift program in the regional territory. Reporting to the Director of Development, Major Giving, the Regional Major Gift Officer will manage a portfolio of approximately 75-150 prospects capable of making a gift of $10,000+.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the Director of Development, Major Giving ,establish an annual operating plan for the assigned region, with measurable performance objectives, that is linked to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard’s fundraising goals and priorities. Participate in assessing progress toward regional objectives and adjust plan as necessary.
  • Successfully manage a major gift portfolio of approximately 75-150 prospects to meet agreed upon philanthropic goals for the region. 
  • Create written strategic action plans for top 10 prospects with the intent of deepening relationships on behalf of the Foundation, leading to increased comprehensive giving including annual, endowment and deferred gifts. Conduct periodic prospect qualification sessions with VP, Foundation and Development team.
  • Engage a network of volunteers to achieve regional and programmatic goals, managing regional committees and working groups. Work with USSA trustees to effectively assist efforts in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects.
  • Maintain accurate information in database on all donor interactions.
  • Plan and coordinate prospect/major donor meetings/trips and special event attendance in specific Region. 
  • Participate in the weekly Major Gift Team meetings/ 
  • Actively play a role with the annual programs ensuring the department achieves overall targets and goals in Special Events, Gold Pass, Major Gifts and Endowment.
  • Serve as a key fundraising contact for the region; coordinate and implement special projects at the direction of the Director of Development, Major Giving and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communication, Public Relations, English or related field preferred, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education)
  • Proficiencies in all Microsoft Suite applications and Macintosh platforms
  • Must have experience using fundraising or database software, i.e. Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud or Luminate CRM or Microsoft CRM.
  • Must be willing to travel to regionally/domestically to cultivate/steward donors, for quarterly team meetings (location tbd), board meetings, special events and on snow activities/competitions as needed.
  • Ideally will be located in the Bay Area

Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation and ability to manage a large number of activities simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to translate complex organizational funding needs into compelling gift proposals.
  • Experience in collaborating successfully in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and working with volunteers and senior leadership within an organization.
  • Ability to work effectively with top executives and community leaders.
  • Evidence of being adaptable to working with changing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including good public speaking capabilities.
  • Must be able to be self-directed, work under pressure, multitask and keep a good sense of humor.
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a proven ability to collaborate with colleagues. Resourceful and independent, yet able to work creatively, effectively, and collaboratively within an integrated, team-oriented fundraising environment.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in all matters of staff and donor privacy.
