Computer Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

  • The computer technician's role is to support and maintain in-house computer systems, desktops, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and assistance where required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Maintain a 1 – 2 day service request and response turn around.

  • Manage and maintain all technical systems at the Center of Excellence facility including the audiovisual systems, computer room environmental conditions, alarm system, door access system, and video surveillance system.

  • Maintain a service desk including, asset management, service request management, application deployment, and knowledge management.

  • Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software. 

  • Follow escalation procedures when needed in order to ensure successful resolution to issues. 

  • Follow issues through to completion, and communicate the result to the end user. 

  • Assist in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting and statistically monitoring PC performance.

  • Document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal.

  • Assist and develop and maintain policies and procedures.

 

RESPONSIBLE TO

  • This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

  • To support the office staff, typical hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  

  • Often it is necessary to work after hours or on weekends to do system upgrades, special projects, etc.

  • The work atmosphere is casual, but it is necessary to be well groomed.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience managing and maintaining computer networks.

  • Minimum technical certifications A+ and MCP.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows and Apple desktop products.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneously.

  • Minimum (2 years) and current experience as an Administrator on a medium sized network of servers, desktop systems and communications devices using current technologies.

  • Industry certifications such as CWSP, Cisco, MCSE, etc. are desirable.
