Eastern Alpine Region News

With no NorAm racing on the horizon until spring, the Women’s and Men’s NorAm Teams have packed up and flown to Europe for the next month.  A select few National Development Group athletes have been invited to join the group, with the goal of gaining critical i

The 2020-21 season kicked off last month with a flurry of high-level competition at Copper Mountain.
As we head into the season, there are still many logistical challenges that we’re all still sorting out. How can we ski in groups, especially with really young kids that need more help from adults? How can we ski enough if we have to limit the number of hours in our program?
Could we have set a more positive tone for the season to come than Paula Moltzan and Nina O’Brien, two U.S. Ski Teamers hailing from the Eastern Region, finishing in the top fifteen at the Soelden World Cup opener earlier this month?
After a busy off-season of planning and limited skiing due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns from last spring, it is exciting to see the cold weather returning to our mountains!
As we encounter the many challenges and hardships of the current COVID world, we are also coming face to face with social inequalities that exist in our country, and chief among those at this moment is racial inequality.
As Land Rover U.S. Alpine Ski Team athletes returned home early in mid-March from a shortened 2019-20 season, they were faced with a plethora of unknowns amidst the new normal that a global pandemic would provide.
Land Rover U.S. Alpine Ski Team Development athlete Ainsley Proffit was recently featured in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's "Best of St. Louis" series, featuring the region's top performers in Olympic and recreational sports in an article entitled, "From St. Charles to U.S. ski team: Ainsley Proffit's unlikely quest to be queen of the hill."
Though the time away from the mountain was challenging for Land Rover U.S. Alpine Ski Team athletes, there was one athlete, in particular, who made the most of the time away—spending some much-welcomed time with her family, settling into her new normal as the “CEO” of her brand, giving back to charitable causes for COVID-19 relief, and launching her involvement with her new foundation.
Starting with the Land Rover U.S. Alpine Ski Team in early June, U.S. Ski & Snowboard worked closely with several domestic ski areas, including Mt. Bachelor, to coordinate unique summer on-snow training camp opportunities for its national teams.
Each and every one of U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s more than 170 athletes has a unique story, and that story has only gotten more unique since their 2019-20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eastern Amateur Ski Education Foundation

The Eastern Amateur Ski Educational Foundation (EASEF) is a fund that has been established to benefit the development of competitive skiing. It is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports alpine, cross country, jumping, freestyle, and snowboard development programs in the Eastern Region.

A special alpine account has been set up to benefit our eastern Athletes. Specifically, funds raised to for alpine are spent to directly reduce the costs to the athletes, by supporting competitor travel to national and international events, and to training camps and similar opportunities. EASEF relies entirely on contribution for the support it provides our athletes and programs.

If you want to help Eastern alpine competitors, we guarantee that any contribution earmarked "Alpine" will do just that. Eastern skiers need your help more than ever. EASEF can make a difference for those who have the ability to ski, not necessarily the ability to pay. From U16s to Junior Championship and NorAm racers, our skiers need financial support. If you would like to learn more please visit the EASEF website.
