Sammy was named to the U.S. Cross Country Development Team for the 2022-23 season and in her first season on the team, advanced to the heats in her first World Cup sprint. In 2022, Sammy finished fifth in the freestyle sprint at the 2022 Junior World Nordic Ski Championships. Sammy is a triple-threat, excelling in several sports. She was named to the U.S. Soccer U17 Women’s National Team, was part of the squad that took home third place at the PanAmerican Games in October 2023 and has committed to play D1 soccer at the University of Stanford post highschool. In highschool, she was named the Gatorade Player of the Year, a prestigious award which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement. She also was a competitive freestyle moguls skier.

4 Things You Didn't Know About Samantha Smith

  • 1. Sammy had never roller skied until three years ago.
  • 2. She is a very competitive soccer player, making the U17 World Cup roster for the U.S. National Soccer Team.
  • 3. She initially started cross country skiing because her older sister was really involved with the sport, so naturally, she wanted to be too.
  • 4. Sammy has a couple of special pairs of socks that she has deemed "race socks," so she always races in them, and they are only to be worn on race days.
