Wallisch Takes Dew Tour Slope

By U.S. Ski & Snowboard
December, 18 2011

BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Dec. 18) - U.S. Freeskiing Pro Team athlete Tom Wallisch (Pittsburgh, PA) kicked off the season with a big win in the first slopestyle skiing contest since the International Olympic Committee decision last July to bring the event into the 2014 Olympics. Wallisch put down a stunning second run to take the title, his first major in two years. Five U.S. Freeskiing athletes cracked the top seven.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The victory was Wallisch's fourth Dew Tour win but first in two seasons.
  • AFP rankings leader Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO) was fourth.
  • Kenworthy's fourth in both halfpipe and slopestyle helped him remain atop the AFP overall rankings.
  • Bobby Brown (Denver) was sixth, Alex Schlopy (Park City, UT) seventh.

QUOTES
Tom Wallisch
It's awesome coming off kind of a bad year it's just amazing to start off with a win. Being on top, well, it's hard to explain.

Everyone got really good. The level is so high right now - it's so hard.

Mike Jankowski, U.S Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding Coach
What an awesome way for Tom to kickoff the season. Earning the win at the Breck Dew Tour was no easy feat. The field was super stacked and Tom struggled in his first run. Stomping the winning run with the pressure on is what sets Tom apart. He is a true gamer and always keeps it positive and fun on the hill, whether it's a contest or not.

Stoked for Tom and the U.S. Freeskiing crew to keep building more momentum as we get into the season.
