Vonn USOC March Athlete of the Month

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (April 10) – Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall champion and Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) has been voted the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) Female Athlete of the Month for March. Vonn, who secured a record fourth World Cup overall title and set a women's season-long point record of 1,980, last captured the USOC honor in March of 2009 after winning her second overall title.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) was named USOC Female Athlete of the Month for March.
  • During March Vonn secured a record fourth World Cup overall title with five races remaining in the season.
  • Vonn also posted a single-season record 12th World Cup victory with a giant slalom win (March 9).
  • In addition to the overall title, Vonn locked the super G title in March to bring her career World Cup title total to another American record with 16.
  • She closed March by setting a women's World Cup point record with 1,980 points, a record that was set in 2006.
  • With 53 victories, Vonn has won more World Cup races than any American.
  • Among the women, only Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria (62) and Vreni Schneider of Switzerland (55) are ahead of Vonn. On the men’s said, just two men have more: Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden (86) and Hermann Maier of Austria (54).
  • Vonn has won the USOC Award a total of five times: February 2008, March 2008, February 2009 and last in March of 2009.
