Second Annual Hurricane for Hope

PARK CITY, UT (Aug. 22) – Two years ago members of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team lost a teammate and friend, Olympic silver medalist Jeret “Speedy” Peterson. This Saturday, Aug. 24  athletes of all generations will come together again to honor Speedy at the second annual Hurricane for Hope. The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation and The Speedy Foundation will come together to raise funds that support youth sports programs and mental health awareness. The Speedy Foundation was established in honor of the late Olympic medalist Jeret "Speedy" Peterson. The event celebrates the “joy of sport” and the impact that being active has on the lives of youth and communities. The event pays tribute to the life and legacy of Speedy who died in July of 2011.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The second annual Hurricane for Hope is scheduled for this Saturday, Aug. 24
  • The event honors Jeret “Speedy” Peterson who took the silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver for his trick the Hurricane.
  • All proceeds from this event will be used to develop and deliver community educational programs dedicated to understanding mental illness, fighting its stigma, preventing suicide through youth sport programs and inspire youth to participate in sports and enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Past and future Olympians will be in attendance for a meet-and-greet as well as a big air performance by the Flying Ace All-Stars
  • Athletes will be throwing their best tricks in Speedy's honor. Among those are teammate and close friend, Emily Cook, who has been a driving force behind the Hurricane for Hope event for the past two years.
  • Fans can join The Speedy Foundation and Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation for an evening of celebration, community & fundraising.

The event this weekend is definitely going to be one to remember. As it did last year, it will bring the community together to remember a legend in the sport of freestyle skiing. Speedy's passion and commitment to keeping young kids involved in sport is apparent each year at this event.
