Nate Holland Boards for Breast Cancer

By U.S. Ski & Snowboard
August, 29 2012

Biking 28 miles – easy. Running 28 miles – hard. Skateboarding 28 miles – awesome! Six-time X Games medalist, Nate Holland hopped on his skateboard and went for a 28 mile cruse for Breast Cancer earlier this month.

The event, hosted by Boarding for Breast Cancer is an annual event in its eighth year. Boarding for Breast Cancer is a nonprofit foundation that provides breast cancer awareness, education, prevention and support for young people and the action sports community at large. The organization was founded in 1996 by Lisa Hudson and Kathleen Gasperini with professional snowboarders Tina Basich and Shannon Dunn-Downing.

The course runs along a 28-mile portion of North Lake Tahoe, beginning and ending at the Heritage Plaza in Tahoe City. A Tahoe native, Holland heard of the event from an old friend who owns a skate shop in his hometown. While in training mode, Holland dusted off his longboard and decided the 28 mile trek would be his off season training for the day.

"The event brought out all kinds of people young and old," said Holland. "I'm usually in South America training during this event but since training was pushed back a few weeks I was able to participate for the first time. It is an awesome event for a great cause and I was also able to use it as some off season training."

Boarding for Breast Cancer events will continue through October of this year before taking the winter off. You can learn more about upcoming events and ways you can get involved here.
