Ligety Banks 75000 Euro at Rockfest
ANDALO, Italy (Dec. 23) - Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) put a little something in his own Christmas stocking Monday after banking a 75,000 Euro victory in the winner-take-all Alpine Rockfest exibition held at Paganella Ski Area in Italy. Now in it's fourth winter, Ligety also won Alpine Rockfest in 2011. The event brought together 15 of the best giant slalom skiers in the world, including Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) and Tim JItloff (Reno, NV), to compete on a pro-style track through three elimination rounds. Miller had the fastest qualification time in the Round of 15 but was bumped out of the contest just before the final round after hooking up his inside ski on the lower part of the short course. Jitloff was knocked out during the tight initial qualifying round of 15.

- Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) posted the fastest qualification time, but was knocked out in the second round after a crucial mistake. Knowing he was out, Miller hucked a 360 on the pro jump over an Audi.
- Tim Jitloff (Reno, NV), who matched a career best Audi FIS Alpine World Cup performance Sunday, was bumped from the initial qualification round, which separated atheltes by mere thousandths of a second.
- Now in it's fourth year, the event brought together 15 of the best giant slalom skiers in the world to compete on a shortened pro-style sprint track at Paganella Ski Area.
- Ligety also won Alpine Rockfest in 2011.

Oh man, that’s an awesome Christmas present, that’s for sure. You know, for what the weather was the hill was awesome, it was a lot of fun to ski it. I felt like especially in that final I put together a pretty good run in order to beat these guys. So I’m really happy I could do that.

I love it when it’s (warm) like this — you don’t have to bundle up as much, it’s not freezing cold. Obviously, you know the snow could be a little bit harder, a little bit better, but I think as of right now it’s great for racing. You see the guys really pushing hard — everyone’s giving it their best — so I think it’s a fair race.
