Kasper 9th in Adelboden Slalom

ADELBODEN, Switzerland (Jan. 8) - Nolan Kasper (Warren, VT) was 9th in a rugged Adelboden slalom as Austrian Marcel Hirscher won his third consecutive Audi FIS Alpine World Cup race. Hirscher, who pushed his World Cup overall lead to 230 points, began his streak with a slalom win in Zagreb, Croatia and also won Saturday's giant slalom in Adelboden. Will Brandenburg (Spokane, WA) was 22rd for his first points of the season as 23 racers failed to finish the first run.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nolan Kasper was ninth for his second World Cup top 10 this season
  • Austrian Marcel Hirscher won to sweep the Adelboden weekend and claim a third straight victory
  • Hirscher now leads Croatian Ivica Kostelic by 230 points in the overall chase
  • Will Brandenburg was 22nd for his first points of the season
  • Heavy wet snow fell throughout the race covering an already soft course
  • 23 of the 68 starters failed to finish the first run with nine more bowing out of the final
  • Ted Ligety qualified for the final, but failed to finish the second run
  • Bode Miller, Jimmy Cochran, Will Gregorak and Colby Granstrom did not finish the first run
  • The men's World Cup now moves to Wengen, Switzerland for the 82nd Lauberhorn races

The first 20 guys in the second run had decent visibility and the last 10 guys had difficult conditions. It was an extreme challenge for everyone.

When Nolan went, it was especially nasty, but then [Stefano] Gross caught a window with great light and he took that right to the podium. It just didn't matter what the weather was doing for Hirscher and Kostelic, they both were amazing - absolutely amazing.

It was good to see Will [Brandenburg] back in the top 30. Even if he didn't ski the way he wanted to or the way we know he can, it was still a good result and confirmed his World Cup start spot.

Ted went in some really tough conditions, but it wasn't really a good course for him. It was really a tight with really short distances between gates and he had trouble right from the start.
