Cuche Overtakes Downhill Lead

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (Jan. 28) - Swiss juggernaut Didier Cuche climbed into the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup downhill lead with victory in a a fog shortened Garmisch downhill. Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) was 35th, despite starting after racer 45. Miller, who was slated to start 16, was sanctioned with the later start for arriving late to the previous evening bib draw. Travis Ganong (Squaw Valley, CA) led Americans with 27th followed by Marco Sullivan (Squaw Valley, CA) in 28th.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Swiss Didier Cuche won the Garmisch downhill to overtake the World Cup downhill points lead
• The race was shortened to the super G start due to fog high on the course
• The Kitzbuehel downhill last weekend, also won by Cuche, was shortened due to weather
• Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) was 35th despite starting after bib 45
• Miller was sanctioned with the later start for arriving late to the previous evening bib draw
• Travis Ganong (Squaw Valley, CA) was 27th and Marco Sullivan (Squaw Valley, CA) 28th
• Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) did not start in favor of extra giant slalom training
• A super G will be staged Sunday to close the men's races in Garmisch
