Kiley Staples took a quick liking to running gates when she was a youngster, and that attraction has grown through the years, starting with NASTAR and heading for the World Cup. Coaches say her quick feet and easy adaptability will keep elevating her skiing to the next level.
After fighting a bone bruise in 2008 and a torn ACL 2009, Staples worked her way back into the game during the latter half of the 2010 season then got things cooking in 2011. Need proof? She took the NorAm overall title by racking up an impressive 1241 points.
The overall crown earns Staples an automatic star in every World Cup she'd like to enter next season. Just ask 2010 NorAm overall champ Laurenne Ross how well that can pay off.
I accomplished almost all of the goals I had for this season, so I am really excited with how it turned out. It will be really great to spend a lot more time in Europe on the Europa Cup circuit, and I feel like I can do really well there. A big goal of mine is to start scoring some points in World Cups next season and make the leap to the World Cup circuit.
Dad took Staples skiing at Snowbird when she was 5. He put her into a NASTAR course “and it just evolved from there.” Younger sis Sydney is also a competitive racer as is their even younger brother Max.
OFF THE SNOW:
Staples is a fan of Harry Potter, Grey's Anatomy, Bones and can be found watching Wedding Crashers and The Hangover more than once. She loves to mountain bike and play tennis with her family when off the snow. Oh, and when it comes to music, there are no boundaries, but does have a special rotation for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
