About High Performance

The U.S. Ski & Snowboard High Performance department applies best practices in sport science and sports medicine to support America’s Olympic skiing and snowboarding athletes and coaches and acts as a collaborative resource for the domestic development system.

Comprised of more than 30 full-time staff and hundreds of volunteers in the areas of sport science, including athletic development coaches, clinical and sports psychologists, dietitians, and data scientists; sports medicine, including certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, doctors, and allied health professionals; as well as coaches and club educators; the high performance team services the almost 200 elite athletes that make up U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s national teams.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s high performance department is more than 20 years old and is regarded as one of the leading high performance departments in the world. As an early adopter of an integrated High Performance model within elite sport, U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s High Performance department has influenced many Collegiate, Olympic, and professional sports in the United States, and the department continues to work on the cutting edge of performance innovation.

The department works collaboratively with sport coaches to develop competent, confident and connected athletes and teams of strong character that are physically and mentally prepared to be the best in the world in skiing and snowboarding. Through nurturing an inclusive, physically and psychologically safe environment, the department champions continuous competitive improvement by pushing the limits of human performance and personal and professional excellence. Open discussion, having fun and creating solutions cultivates a strong team at the national level. Working closely with regional coaches and programs ensures a strong development pipeline for the future of American Olympic skiing and snowboarding.
