BIO

Gus Schumacher, originally from Anchorage, Alaska has been on the Stifel U.S. Cross Country Ski Team since the 2018-19 season and is proving to the World that he is one of the fastest in the world. Coming off the Stifel Loppet Cup in Minneapolis, Gus shocked the world, by winning his first-ever World Cup, in front of nearly 40,000 fans and becoming the youngest U.S. athlete to ever win a World Cup.

Throughout his career, Gus has accumulated many accolades, including being the first ever American to win a gold medal at the FIS Junior World Cross Country Championships, was a key member of the 2019 Junior Men's World Championship relay team with Luke Jager, Ben Ogden, and Johnny Hagenbuch, skiing the anchor leg, and also secured one of the best American results at the FIS Tour de Ski with an 18th place.

When beginning the 2023-24 season, he looked to land in the top 15 at a North American World Cup, finish the season stronger than where he started and be patient with his training - which he did, ending the 2023-24 season ranked 15th in the world.

As he looks ahead, his overall goal is to win an Olympic medal or an overall discipline World Cup globe, while remaining a good teammate and role model. "Being a good friend and teammate with the group that I've been with for a long time means so much."

Outside of his passion for skiing, Gus is a student at the University of Alaska Anchorage working towards an engineering degree, slated to graduate in May of 2024, is heavily involved with Protect our Winters (POW) and the Special Olympics and loves to mountain bike, wakesurf, play kendama, crossword puzzles and motocross riding.

"Work smarter, not harder"
